Cooperation between VIRS and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade (FVM BG) The collaboration between VIRSVB and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Belgrade (FVM BG) is realised through scientific projects, the publication of scientific papers, the organisation of scientific conferences, doctoral studies and the election to scientific ranks of VIRSVB staff, the membership of FVM BG scientific staff in the Scientific Council of VIRSVB, and the exchange of diagnostic and reference materials.
VIRSVB has a long-standing collaboration with the Institute for Hygiene and Meat Technology (INMES), which has developed in several directions, such as the exchange of experience regarding laboratory accreditation, training in testing methods at INMES (Mini Vidas, etc.), and the testing of samples for the purposes of scientific research (projects, doctoral theses, etc.). at INMESS, the membership of INMESS's scientific staff in the Scientific Council of the VIRSVB, the development of technical solutions, subcontracting services provided by INMESS, and, as a consortium, joint participation in the residue monitoring of the BiH Veterinary Office.
The collaboration with the Scientific Institute for Veterinary Medicine of Serbia (NIVS) dates back to the period when VIRSVB was implementing a management system and intensively preparing for laboratory accreditation according to the BAS EN ISO/ IEC 17025. This collaboration has continued through the exchange of knowledge among researchers, the enhancement of the management system, and the development of new techniques and methods for scientific research, the development of international projects, the publication of scientific papers, the participation of NIVS staff in committees for the defence of theses by VIRSVB staff in postgraduate studies, inter-laboratory tests (molecular and serological diagnostic methods), etc. There is constant communication and cooperation in the field of diagnostics for infectious animal diseases, as well as the exchange of diagnostic and reference materials. A significant part of the cooperation involves the training of VIRSVB laboratory staff and the development of new methods and techniques for the diagnosis of infectious animal diseases. In recent years, the most intensive cooperation has been in the field of pathology and diagnostics of African swine fever.
Scientific Institute for Veterinary Medicine Novi Sad (NIV NS) is a scientific research organisation with which VIRSVB has developed a long-standing collaboration in various segments of scientific research, as well as in monitoring and exchanging knowledge on the epizootiological and epidemiological situation in the environment, and the development of new laboratory methods and procedures. Experts from VIRSVB regularly collaborate with their colleagues from NIV NS on publishing scientific and professional papers and conducting inter-laboratory tests. Significant cooperation has been achieved in the improvement of diagnostics for various causative agents of animal infectious diseases, such as the molecular and serological diagnostics for leptospirosis and classical swine plague. Of particular significance is the cooperation in the exchange of experience in the diagnosis and control measures against African swine fever.
The cooperation with the Veterinary Specialist Institute ‘Šabac’ (VSI Šabac) dates back to the period when VIRSVB was introducing a management system and was intensively preparing for laboratory accreditation according to the BAS EN ISO/ IEC 17025. Significant support and assistance was then received.
One of the significant institutions with which VIRSVB has a long-standing collaboration is the Veterinary Specialised Institute ‘Kraljevo’ (VSI Kraljevo). There are numerous activities and areas of joint work and cooperation, primarily through staff training, the implementation of testing methods, and
Interlaboratory tests (avian influenza). As part of professional development, VIRSWB staff participated in training, within the framework of an international project and with the assistance of the IAEA (TC project SV- BOH5002-1805703), on the topic of laboratory biosafety, sample preparation for
molecular testing, manual and automated nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) extractions, and diagnostics for Bluetongue, West Nile Fever, Lumpy Skin disease and African Swine Fever. Also, the training of VIRSVB staff at the VSI in Kraljevo on the diagnosis of avian influenza (virological and serological methods) is significant.
The collaboration between VIRSVB and the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad, is realised through the publication of scientific papers, participation in scientific conferences and the doctoral studies of VIRSVB staff.
The cooperation between VIRSVB and the Croatian Veterinary Institute (HVI) is realised through the publication of scientific papers, the exchange of diagnostic and reference materials, the training of VIRSVB staff and the examination of samples for the purpose of scientific research. (projects, doctoral theses, etc.) at the HVI, as well as through subcontracted services provided by the HVI.
The cooperation between VIRSVB and the Reference Laboratory for Milk and Dairy Products (RLM) dates back to the establishment of the Raw Milk Testing Laboratory (2004), and is reflected in the testing of secondary reference materials for the chemical composition and somatic cell count of cow's milk, as well as the chemical composition of goat's milk, which are prepared by the RLM. Cooperation is also realised through the participation of VIRSVB in proficiency tests (PTs) organised by RLM as an accredited PT provider, as well as through expert assistance on accreditation matters.
The collaboration was established in the field of molecular characterisation of bacterial PFGE isolates, and its significance lies in interdisciplinary scientific cooperation at a regional level, the availability of biological materials, access to resources and scientific communication. The aim of this collaboration is to make available established isolates of Paenibacillus larvae, the causative agent of American foulbrood of bee brood from the territory of Republika Srpska, to verify these findings using advanced molecular methods, and to demonstrate the structure of the phylogenetic tree. The result of the collaboration is participation in a proposal for the PRIZMA programme of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, entitled "Novel Biologically Engineered Agents for the Control of American Foulbrood in
Honey Bees, BeeCraft“.
