Laboratory of Food, Feed and Water Microbiology
The Food, Feed and Water Microbiology Laboratory performs sensory analyses of food and feed, microbiological examinations of food, feed, samples from the working and production environment (surface swabs) and drinking water using microbiological methods, and the examination for the presence of residues of veterinary medicines in food and animal feed using screening microbiological methods. For microbiological examinations of food, animal feed, surface swabs and water, the Laboratory uses standard BAS ISO methods, which involve qualitative and quantitative examinations for bacteria, yeasts and moulds. Qualitative microbiological methods, which are based on the inhibition of microorganism growth, are used to determine the presence of residues of veterinary drugs. The Laboratory has participated in over 35 studies.

Raw Milk Testing Laboratory
The Raw Milk Testing Laboratory carries out tests on the chemical composition and hygienic suitability of raw milk using physicochemical methods.
The laboratory has participated in over 45 proficiency testing/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Laboratory for Immunochemical Analysis of Food and Preparation of Media
The Laboratory for Immunoenzymatic Testing of Food and Preparation of Media performs tests for the presence of residues and contaminants in food and animal feed using screening immunoenzymatic methods, The laboratory also undertakes work related to the preparation and sterilisation of microbiological media, as well as the washing, drying and sterilisation of crockery and equipment. Testing is carried out using the ELISA technique (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay). The laboratory has participated in over 10 proficiency tests/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Chemical Testing and Residues Laboratory
The Laboratory for Chemical Tests and Residues carries out sensory analyses of food and animal feed, and performs physico-chemical tests of food and animal feed using physico-chemical, biochemical, optical and other methods, as well as tests for the presence of residues and contaminants in food and animal feed using screening and confirmatory methods. Physico-chemical analyses are performed using the following techniques: spectrophotometry, cryoscopy, electrochemistry, volumetry, refractometry, lactodensimetry, gravimetry, chromatography, etc. The laboratory has participated in over 50 proficiency tests/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Pathology and TSE Laboratory
The Pathology and TSE Laboratory performs diagnostic tests for animal diseases and zoonoses, and diagnostic tests on biological materials of animal and other origins using pathomorphological, pathological and immunohistochemical examinations, performs tests for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE), and determines biochemical parameters and the metabolic profile of animals. The testing for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies is performed using the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) technique. The laboratory has participated in over 10 proficiency tests for inter-laboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Serology Laboratory
The Serology Laboratory performs diagnostic tests for animal diseases and zoonoses, and analyses biological materials of animal and other origins using serological and immunological methods. Tests are performed using the following techniques: rapid serum agglutination, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), agar gel immunodiffusion assay (AGID), complement fixation reaction (CFR), microscopic agglutination-lysis test (MAT test), ƴ interferon test, haemagglutination inhibition (IHA test), etc. The laboratory has participated in over 50 proficiency testing/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Laboratory of Clinical Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology
The Laboratory of Clinical Bacteriology, Mycology and Parasitology performs diagnostic tests for animal diseases and zoonoses, and diagnostic tests of biological materials of animal and other origins using bacteriological, mycological, parasitological and serological methods. The laboratory uses the technique of microbiological culture in its work, which includes the primary isolation and identification of bacteria, yeasts and moulds, microscopy, agglutination, serotyping, and determination of bacterial antimicrobial susceptibility by disk-diffusion method. - diffusion method, artificial digestion, coprological, urological, haematological, dermatological and pathological-anatomical methods for parasite diagnostics, morphological determination of mosquito species and genera, morphological determination of vectors, etc. The laboratory has participated in 11 proficiency testing/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Laboratory of Virology and Molecular Diagnostics
The Laboratory of Virology and Molecular Diagnostics performs diagnostic tests for animal diseases and zoonoses, and analyses biological materials of animal and other origins using virological and molecular methods. Molecular tests are performed using Real-Time PCR and standard PCR techniques. The laboratory has participated in over 25 proficiency tests/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases
The Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases carries out diagnostic tests for animal diseases and zoonoses, and diagnostic tests on biological materials of animal and other origins using pathomorphological, bacteriological, mycological, and parasitological methods.
Using serological and immunological testing methods, performs the duties of collecting and receiving samples for testing and issues reports on test results in the Laboratory Business Unit in
Biotin. Tests are performed using the following techniques: rapid serum agglutination, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), interferon-ƴ assay, etc. The laboratory has participated in over 20 proficiency testing/interlaboratory comparisons (PT/ILC scheme).

Лабораторија за безбједност хране и радиолошка испитивања обавља сензорне анализе хране и хране за животиње, обавља микробиолошка испитивања хране, хране за животиње и брисева површина примјеном микробиолошких метода, обавља испитивања присуства резидуа и контаминаната у храни и храни за животиње примјеном оријентационих метода, обавља радиолошка испитивања хране, хране за животиње, воде и тла примјеном радиолошких метода, обавља послове у вези са припремом и стерилизацијом микробиолошких подлога, као и прања, сушења и стерилизације посуђа и прибора. Centre for Animal Health and Food Safety
The Centre for Animal Health and Food Safety is, in accordance with the Law on Scientific Research and Technological Development (Official Gazette of Republika Srpska 6/12, 33/14, 66/18, 84/19), is registered as a research centre, which, as a scientific research and/or
The research and development organisational unit VIRSVB predominantly carries out basic and applied, and development research.
The activities of the Centre are:
– scientific research and development activities in the fields of science, animal health and food safety,
– epidemiological surveillance and monitoring of the epidemiological situation,
– monitoring the implementation of vaccination,
– allergological investigations by carrying out allergy tests,
– control of zoonoses,
– participation in the preparation and adoption of measures, plans and programmes for the diagnosis and control of infectious and parasitic animal diseases, as well as in the field of food safety,
– educating professional and the wider public on infectious diseases and food safety, and developing existing and new approaches to this issue,
– cooperation with VIRSVB service users, which includes contacting potential service users and arranging specific activities regarding future cooperation for the purposes of the contractual relationship, and analysing the cooperation carried out,
– proposing, developing and implementing scientific and professional projects, programmes, reports and studies,
– coordination of the preparation and publication of scientific and professional papers,
– conducting elections to academic ranks,
– monitoring legislation in their field and providing expert opinions.

Department for Financial, Legal and Public Procurement Affairs
The Department for Financial, Legal and Public Procurement Affairs, as an organisational unit of the Centre for Common Affairs, ensures the lawful, designated and planned expenditure of financial resources, and the maintenance of liquidity, solvency, profitability and financial

Sample Receiving Department
The Sample Receipt Department handles the receipt of samples for testing at the Banja Luka site, and carries out the collection of samples for testing, issues test reports for the Banja Luka site, and manages transport for the needs of VIRSVB, including the use and maintenance of vehicles, performs technical maintenance of VIRSVB's movable and immovable property, performs the duties of storing and issuing VIRSVB's filing materials, performs cleaning and hygiene duties in VIRSVB's premises and associated outdoor areas, and monitors the physical security of the premises and compliance with the VIRSVB house rules.
